Marinique de Wet: The hotel award specialist

Updated: May 13, 2019

Marinique de Wet @mariniq is the founder and owner of Haute Grandeur Global Awards @haute_grandeur, an independent, global awards company focused on the highest achievements in the global hotel industry. Marinique, who established the awards in 2014, says that there was a need for a credible, unbiased, fair and transparent international hotel and spa awards system. Haute Grandeur achieves this by inviting hotels to participate based on actual customer feedback rather than the number of votes by a panel of judges or the general public (as is commonly the case with many other international awards systems). Building a credible independent awards brand is never easy but Marinique’s previous 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry, which included two roles as the managing director of two highly successful international luxury hotel and spa awards, have stood her in good stead. In just 4 years, she has grown the Haute Grandeur brand to include 14 000 hotels across 60 countries and has partnered with international brands such @forbes , @emirates and @etihadairwaysand has a team of 8 full time staff.

Marinique, who has a degree in management accounting and initially worked in the asset management industry, ventured into the hospitality industry after a chance meeting with a guy who managed hotel groups. The timing was perfect as she was unhappy with her inability to make a difference in the asset management space at the time. She started Haute Grandeur when her son was 3 months old and her one year old daughter who had been born with a dislocated hip was still in a cast to correct this issue and therefore immobile. Marinique loves traveling and has been traveling since the age of 7, as her father’s career involved a great deal of travel.

We are inspired by Marinique’s tenacity & focus and the sheer extent of what she has achieved internationally with Haute Grandeur in such a short space of time!
