Naadiya Moosajie: The engineering activist

Updated: Apr 23, 2019

Naadiya Moosajie @naadiyam @NaadiyaMoosajee is one of those women who has tried many things and has lived to tell many tales. She is better known both locally and internationally for her work around developing the next generation of female engineering leaders in Africa through her organisations WomHub @Womhub and WomEng @womeng@_WomEng. Together with her co-founder @HemsVallabh, Naadiya has the mighty goal of engineering better societies, by addressing youth and gender issues within the engineering sector, both in terms of promoting engineering as a discipline of choice for women and helping to bridge the gap between female engineering graduates and the world of work. She is currently working with the United Nations (UN) on the #1MillionGirlsInSTEM programme, aiming to mentor one million girls and support their entry into the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. WomHub works across 15 countries.

In addition to her work around promoting the engineering discipline, Naadiya, who is an engineer herself and has won multiple awards, has also tried her hand at a few entrepreneurial ventures – one of which is Naadiya M, a fashion label designing, manufacturing & retailing modest ethical fashion (which she has since closed down) and a very successful, Turkish restaurant called Saray , which she runs with her husband.

We are inspired by Naadiya’s story because her perseverance and commitment to what she believes in has seen her focussed on the promotion of engineering as a discipline for over a decade! In addition to this, she has fearlessly tried her hand at entrepreneurial ventures she's been passionate about. Naadiya tells us that she likes spending Friday evenings on the couch with Netflix and spending time with her one year old son.
